Emotion

The theme in the Gallery this week is Emotion.

One of things I was really looking forward to seeing on our honeymoon, was dolphins. I’d heard many things about how they were very friendly and would swim right up next to your boat. Wowwww… How exciting.

A few days into our holiday we went on a “dolphin excursion”, which was basically a speed boat ride around the ocean for an hour with the hope we might pass a school of dolphins wanting to entertain us. About an hour we gave up hope and came back slightly disappointed we hadn’t seen any.

The next day we went on a sunset cruise where we pretty much floated around on a big boat called a dhoni and got to have drinks and canap├ęs. It was very nice just relaxing and watching the sun set so peacefully.

Then one of the crew started getting very excited and abruptly interrupted the romantic ambience shouting “Dolphin dolphiiiiiin!!! Dolphin dolphiiiiiin!!!”. He then started banging the side of the boat. Thankfully another crew member explained this is how they got the dolphins attention (and that he wasn’t crazy).

Dolphins? At this time? We all ran to the side of the boat and sure enough there was a family all swimming to the side of us, skimming the ocean and jumping out every so often. Like they wanted to have a look at the humans. Every so often they’d criss cross each other in front of the boat, as if it were a little dare with each other. It was an amazing sight and we all tried hard to take some steady photos.

Eventually the dolphins got bored of us and probably decided to turn in for the night. As did we. We all merrily stumbled of the boat once back on shore and happily pottered back to our rooms. We’d just seen “Dolphin dolphiiiins!!”

  1. Wow so lovely that you saw some! I have been on a humpback whale excursion and got equally as excited when I spotted some swimming along side the boat I was on! Xx

  2. How lovely- I was very lucky to swim with Dolphins in Barbados, it was one of my most favourite memories. They gave you a kiss and carried you on their noses and threw you in the air.
