With blog awards season in full swing you can see the parallels between blog awards and the groups that people, both actors and blogs fall into. If you think about it, awards are all the same aren’t they? Some people love them and see it as both a celebration and recognition of their art. Some enjoy the fun of it but don’t take it too seriously, loving the ride as they go. And some hate it, because its not for them or its too political or they don’t like the methods used. Etc etc.
So using the Oscars and world of Hollywood here are the categories I think blogs/ blog writers (and all other “art”) can fall into when it comes to winning an award (or not!).
The Solid Brit One
This movie/blog doesn’t try to be funny or quirky or adventurous. It simply tells its story at its own, calmly confident, slow pace. It draws its audience into the its gentle plot and, even with its non dramatic ending, it raises a smile and becomes a nice and impressive memory in the audience.
The Johnny Depp / Jack Nicholson
There is something very quirky about some bloggers. You know they aren’t loopy per se, but they have a certain aura about them. One that oozes through their writing, making you want to read more about their slightly zany existence. They are the ones that you’re not quite sure how to talk to in real life. Their style is a refreshing one though that sets them apart from the churn out there.
The Katherine Hepburn (aka the Joaquin Phoenix)
She was nominated for a total of 12 oscars, won 4 and didn’t actually attend any of the ceremonies. She’s known as one of the best female actresses and there are a lot of stories of how she didn’t care for things like awards; she just wanted to act. And act she did! Her record is only surpassed by Meryl Streep. (One story suggests she preferred to remain a mystery and didn’t want to lose but I prefer her too cool for school image). Joaquin Phoenix on the other hand has been quite blunt in his view of the Oscars being “bull”.
The Jennifer Lawrence
The one who is working her way hard through her work but doesn’t take it all too seriously. She always looks like she’s enjoying the ride as much as any award that may happen to come her way but she’s got her feet firmly plastered to ground. Always ready for a bit of a joke and laugh and recognising it may not be and shouldn’t be always about her.
The Beautiful One
There are movies and blogs out there that just pure beautiful. Everything is big and bright and vibrant and wonderfully put together. Presentation is the ultimate key here no matter what it is. The story may be a simple one but oh the cinematography and photography make it so much more than that. They extract the tiny awesome elements of their surroundings and magnify for all to see.
The One that uses their power for good
There are some out there that use both their writing and talents for good. Whether it be to further the message of a political cause, highlight issues still affecting people all over the world or raise awareness of local issues affecting nearby communities. Sharing their own sorrows and journey of self struggle in order to vent, to help, to educate.
The Leornado Di Caprio
The guy who is consistently fantastic in everything he stars in. From when Rose wouldn’t let him share her spare on the floating door in Titanic to The Departed to Inception to Django unchained to The Great Gatsby. He’s been in some of the best films of recent times and been pretty great in all of them. Somehow through, he keeps getting overlooked for an Academy Award. Is it because people just expect him to be great all the time now? Or they just keep looking at the newest fashionable piece on the scene? Someone give this man an Oscar!!
So which category would you fall into? Is there another category you would win by a mile? Are you a Katherine Hepburn? Or a Leo?
