Anok Yai has returned to the runway after battling sepsis, an immune response in the body to infection that attacks organs and can lead to death, earlier this year.
During Paris Fashion Week, Yai walked the Chanel runway in a billowing black chiffon dress and a gold necklace. It’s the first major show the model has walked since undergoing a “lifesaving” procedure earlier this year.
Last December, Yai posted to Instagram that she’d been dealing with a “silent battle” after discovering she had an undisclosed congenital defect affecting her heart and lungs. “What started as something asymptomatic for the majority of my life turned into a lingering cough, which turned to chest pains, bouts of coughing up blood, then at times struggling to breathe,” she wrote. The post, which included images of her post-surgery, came just weeks after she won Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.
We’re happy to see Yai make a full recovery and return to blessing us with her presence on the catwalk.
