Never bet against Gayle King. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that King had signed a new deal with CBS News that will keep her on CBS Mornings. Last year, Variety reported that King was “expected to depart” the morning show as part of Bari Weiss’s overhaul of CBS News. That has not come to pass, and King has some words for anyone who speculated about her downfall.

“Rumors of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated,” King told WSJ. “CBS News is my longtime home, and I am committed to our mission. I’m excited about continuing at CBS Mornings. As always, I’m open to new adventures here and ready to go. It took a minute, but we got there. And now that we are here, I am all in.”

Now this is how you release a statement. More celebs should be subtly hinting at some behind-the-scenes turmoil when they update us on their new deals.

Weiss, King’s boss, did not give the WSJ as much drama in her statement. “There is only one Gayle King,” she told the paper. “We’re so proud that she’ll continue to call CBS home. We’re thrilled to have her on in the morning — and equally excited to work with her on new, enterprising projects that bring her talents to new audiences.”

Intriguing. What are these new, enterprising projects that both King and Weiss seem to be hinting at? Maybe they’ll send her back to space! More likely they’ll be putting her on Twitch or something, but we can dream.
