If there are two things Jordon Hudson will go to bat for, they’re her 73-year-old boyfriend and fishermen’s rights. When she isn’t busy cheering on Bill Belichick’s football team, Hudson, the daughter of a Maine fisherman, has been outspoken about political issues affecting fishermen, posting regularly about them on Instagram and making them a major part of her Miss Maine USA platform.
On Saturday, Hudson waded back into fishing politics, showing up at the Maine Fishermen’s Forum in a colorful gown made entirely from 36 pounds of discarded rope recovered from an island off the coast of Maine. Hudson said the dress was custom-made by designer Runa Ray and was intended to raise awareness of “the Gulf of Maine’s sexiest problem, GHOST GEAR, a.k.a. abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing equipment.” According to the World Wildlife Fund, ghost gear is a major contributor to plastic pollution in the ocean, killing marine animals and threatening endangered species.
I’ll hand it to Hudson, this is arguably her best look yet — and that’s including her Carolina-blue snakeskin blazer. Here’s to hoping for more fishing-themed fits in Hudson’s future. You have to admit a fishhook chain-mail dress would go hard.
