Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans early Tuesday after allegedly punching two men amid Mardi Gras celebrations. A spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department told The Cut the incident occurred after LaBeouf was kicked out of a business for causing a “disturbance” and becoming “aggressive.” Per The Guardian, the business was a local bar.

After a staff member ejected LaBeouf from the bar, LaBeouf allegedly punched a man several times. (It was not immediately clear if the victim was the same staff member or a different person.) LaBeouf left the area, “but then came back, acting even more aggressive,” police said. Multiple people apparently attempted to hold him down but then let him go “in hopes that he would leave”; instead, police said, LaBeouf began punching the same man again and punched another man in the nose.

At this point, police said, people at the scene held LaBeouf down again and kept him restrained until police arrived. LaBeouf was taken to the hospital for what authorities described as “unknown injuries.” He was arrested upon his release from the hospital and has been charged with two counts of simple battery.

It’s unclear what led to the incident in New Orleans, but per The Hollywood Reporter, LaBeouf — who has said he got sober in 2010 — had been on an “extended-weekend bar crawl” shortly before his arrest. “He’s terrorizing the city,” one bartender told the outlet.

The Cut has reached out to reps for LaBeouf for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
